Commemorates on: 7 of January Saint John the Baptist was a preacher and lead an ascetic life. He baptized large crowds on the banks of the Jordan River and he was the one preaching of the Kingdom of God. He was the one who baptized Jesus Christ. As a Hebrew Prophet, John spend his life challenging sinners, calling for repentance and preaching for God’s justice.John the Baptist was killed by Herod Antipas because if fear that John would raise a rebellion. Herod’s step daughter, Salome, is said to have asked for John’s head on a platter and his beheading is mentioned in the Gospels. The Christian Church refers to John as the precursor of Jesus Christ as he announced Jesus’ coming. |
